I gotta admit, this is some seriously shady stuff. A North Carolina teacher has been arrested for scamming cash from her own students for a trip to President Obama’s second inaugural, A trip which was never actually going to take place. From WCTI:

Amanda Grady, 32, of Martha Dr. in Kinston, was charged on Monday with obtaining property by false pretense, and was being held under a $10,000 bond. According to police, Grady, who worked as a teacher at Kinston High School, collected $1,450 from students for the field trip in January. But that trip never took place.

Principal Angela Bryant said she had about 30 students who were looking forward to the Presidential Inauguration. She said students forked out nearly $300 each to Grady to pay for the trip.  The money was supposed to cover it all:  transportation, hotel and places they planned to visit.

“That was the part that was so disheartening to me. This would have been a great opportunity for any school to take a group of kids, because many of our kids may never get the chance to see something like that,” said Bryant

There’s seems to be a little discrepancy with how much she actually took from these kids, but, no matter how much she took, she’s an absolute dirtbag. I hope the courts hand this pathetic excuse for a teacher a nice long prison term and have her serve it in the worst prison in the state, there a few things worse than a teacher taking advantage of and deceiving those with whom they are entrusted.

There is some good news for the kids and their families. However this woman stole took, the school stepped up and made sure everyone who was scammed got their money back. Good for them.
