Citing skyrocketing gas prices, some car dealerships in California are now imposing gas charges for customers who come and wish to test drive a vehicle. Some are requiring them to bring the car back with the same amount of gas it had when they left and others are just imposing a fee. No, I’m not kidding. Watch this From FOXDC:

And this is from ABC 10 in Sacramento:

California car dealership has stopped offering free test drives because of high gas prices.

Managers at the Sacramento Auto Sales Center in West Sacramento  say they have a customer come in almost every day wanting to test drive one of them, which gets expensive.

“We have to pay for all the gas and when you have 70, 80 different cars it gets real expensive,” said the manager.

I get that gas prices are high, but this is a horrible idea. People already have a bad opinion of car dealerships and this certainly won’t help matters any. Not to mention it’s going to make a lot of people just walk out on them.

***Free tip for all the salespeople at these places: go ahead and cover the gas charges for all your customers. Trust me.
