I’m issuing a challenge to anyone in the media who wants to be the first to force Obama, or anyone in his administration, to explain the “policies of the past” line Obama has been using since the 2008 campaign.

You might be scratching your head wondering how it could be that no one has ever pressed Obama on this. It’s true. No one has ever asked Obama or anyone in his administration to back up this claim. Ever. Furthermore, they’ve never bothered to really fact check it until Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post did it a couple of days ago.

So the challenge is out there. One reporter, any reporter, needs to force Team Obama to explain what they mean when they blame “policies of the past” for the “mess we’re in” or which “got us into this mess in the first place” or which “caused the economic crisis.” But it’s not enough to simply get them to list the policies. The first reporter to then take the answers and verify that these policies are to blame for the economy “Obama inherited” will win a Pulitzer.

Why? Because it would be the first time anyone debunks the central talking point Obama used to win in 2008 and which he is hoping to ride to victory in 2012.

Who will take up the challenge? Anyone? Do they have the stones? I have a feeling they don’t. And that, America, is the problem.
