The American people had the opportunity to see the Republican challenger take on the Democratic president in tonight’s debate in Denver, CO. Going in to the debate many reporters and political pundits seemed to view this as Romney’s last chance to hang on in the race and make it competitive coming down the final stretch. In order to so Romney would have to turn in a solid performance at par with President Obama. Romney did that, and more.

From the beginning to the end, Governor Romney proved that his debate preparations have yielded massive returns. On every question, and every talking point from the other side of the stage, Governor Romney had a prepared answer with several points to them. No matter the subject, Romney delivered solid responses in which he often listed of several different points backing up his position. Romney also seemed to be in a good mood and managed to crack the first two jokes of the evening.

The other day I argued that Romney would have to fight back against two major lies from the Obama camp on taxes and Medicare. Romney succeeded in that task as well, and then decided to go on the offensive against President Obama. Moderates and independents were presented with a clear choice for the future, in which Governor Romney succeeded in painting a positive vision for the future rooted in conservative ideas about the free market and the role of government.

For Republicans across the country, this was a performance that should provide them with hope and optimism about this election.
