Getting arrested is generally not seen as a helpful event for a political candidate. However Jill Stein, Green Party presidential nominee, and her running mate decided they’d go ahead and test those waters. From the Washington Post:

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and running mate Cheri Honkala were arrested outside Long Island’s Hofstra University ahead of tonight’s debate.

After being denied entrance to the campus because they lacked credentials, the two candidates sat down in the street in front of the university with an American flag on their laps, the Long Island Report explains. They were led away by police officers after refusing to move.

The two candidates were protesting their exclusion from the debates. I don’t have an issue including some 3rd parties in the debates if we can figure out a reasonable standard for being included. Otherwise, you’d have everyone and their mother claiming they were a 3rd party and should be included. Maybe something like qualifying for the ballot in all 50 states could be the requirement, something I think Libertarian Gary Johnson managed this election.
