The incumbent’s Middle Eastern policy is bursting at every seam, he is the most anti-fetus president ever, and he has been sitting on the economy like a 400 lb. man. The first smirches his one evident achievement; the second energizes the opposing bases, though unhappily for Obama the pro-life base is larger; the third depresses everyone.

I attended the largest rally of the 1984 election. It was held in front of Dubrow’s cafeteria in the Garment District. It was for Walter Mondale, who didn’t even carry New York State.

Chin up, eyes on the fundamentals, and turn down the clatter.
