The situation in the Middle East seems to be not only deteriorating rapidly, but spreading. We already have news that Egyptians stormed the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and desecrated an American flag in protest of a film they feel depicts Mohammed in a negative light. Now, an armed mob has attacked the U.S. Embassy in Libya with rocket-propelled grenades yielding much worse results. From Sky News:

Libya’s deputy interior minister Wanis al Sharef said: “One American official was killed and another injured in the hand. The other staff members were evacuated and are safe and sound.”He could not say if the dead man was a diplomat.

In the Egyptian capital, Cairo, protesters climbed the walls of the US embassy, tore down the American flag and burned it.

The protests were sparked by outrage over a video being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the US, which the demonstrators say insults the Prophet Mohammed.

The US condemned the attack in Benghazi, amid reports that the mission had been set on fire and targeted with rocket-propelled grenades.

“We can confirm that our office in Benghazi, Libya, has been attacked by a group of militants,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.

“We condemn in strongest terms this attack,” she added in a statement issued before reports of the death, which came on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Someone better get a handle on this soon or this is going to get even worse than it is right now. One thing I know should be done right now is this: whomever is running the @USEmbassyCairo account needs to just stop tweeting. They are not helping anyone.
