If the number of ads and stump speeches targeting Obama for his now infamous “you didn’t build that” comment are any indictaion, the President has royally stepped in it. Now the Romney campaign is out with another ad along the theme of  ”These Hands,” highlighting the effort and work put in by the small business owners Obama belittled.

This one focuses on Nevada and the Kimmie Candy Company, with owner Joseph Dutra narrating.

The perks of these kinds of ads is it gives Romney something direct to point to when referencing the down economy –  Obama simply has animosity towards the small businesses that will pull us out this economic slump. When you have a President punishing success, Romney says, you get less of success as a result.

What’s more, these ads can attack the President without seeming negative. It’s just Obama’s words contrasting with a small business owner and Romney’s words and it’s obvious who the viewer should side with. In a weird way, these are a negative ad that make the attacker look good.

Without beating the horse to death, the Romney campaign should keep these kinds of ads up.

Congratulations Joe on your success! However I think the president’s words were taken out of context. It would be ridiculous to think he doesn’t respect people who made it on their own. I think he could have communicated his point better but he was talking about how everyone benefits from roads, infrastructure and research that is collectively paid for by all of us. That is of course if you pay your fair share of taxes. Best Wishes, Helene

President Obama’s comment that “you didn’t build that” reflects his belief in big government and lack of belief in free enterprise. In November, we have a choice between these two visions. It’s as simple as that. While all elections are important, I believe this election is the most important of my adult life.

You have made us proud. Congratulation on your success, hard work, and perseverance….it’s paid off.

    Helen:
Obama’s words were not taken out of context and of course his thinking is flawed. The US infrastructure was built (paid for) by all who ever has used them. Purchase gasoline – tax included; Property taxes -(paid by all homeowners) supports education. Also, all roads, bridges, and buildings were contracted by the government; the government did not build anything. They re-distributed tax dollars.

I too am a small business owner and take exception to the fact that I have two (2) silent partners who never contribute to my cash flow, generally create bureaucracies that burden my ability to make profits and at the end of the year sticks their hand for their cut? Who is this? The Federal government (on average 15% to 37% of profits) and the State of California (10%). Add them together and it’s can easily exceed 50%. No investment or down side on their part. If I go out of business they (the government) is not there to help pick up the pieces.
