I was really hoping this was a joke when I read it. Sadly, it appears these folks are very serious. The Vänsterpartiet, a Socialist/Communist political party also known in Sweden as the Left Party, wants to ban urination while standing. From CBCNews:

A Swedish political party is taking a stand against upright urination.

At a county council meeting Monday, the Vänsterpartiet tabled a motion that would require office washrooms to be genderless with a sit-down-only requirement, reported the news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå.

For men who might refuse to comply, party representatives suggested a separate set of toilets clearly labeled for stand-up urination only.

Vänsterpartiet, known as a socialist and feminist organization, believes seated urination is healthier for men and more hygienic for both sexes.

Party speakers cited medical research they said shows men empty their bladders more efficiently while seated. Improved bladder evacuation reduces the risk for prostate problems, according to the party. It also helps men who sit rather than stand achieve a longer and healthier sex life, it said.

Umm, what?

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that a socialist/communist group wants to control people’s actions, but bathroom use? Unbelievable. Anyway, the next time you hear someone say we should be more like Europe? Show them this.

Urinals are awesome … but if it’s a public unisex bathroom (with no urinals), guys probably should sit down. Way too many can’t aim worth crap, especially if they’ve been drinking. If anyone is going to make such rules it should probably be establishments though, not the government.

@Aaron: Excuse me sir. But i have never ever seen a public unisex bathroom anywhere in Europe. I do not belive that something even exist. Men an women in the same bathroom? In wich country would this be acceptable? Maybe in very small three person companies are something like that. Thats just an other law for a problem wich does not even exist.
