Well this is certainly interesting. There’s a report out this morning that says Marco Rubio, who many thought was one of, if not the top VP choice out there, isn’t even being considered by Mitt Romney. From ABC News:

Even before the Republicans chose a presidential nominee it was widely assumed that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., would be at the top of anybody’s list of vice presidential candidates. The reasons are obvious: Not only is he young, charismatic and wildly popular with conservatives, but he could also help Republicans win a key state (Florida) and make inroads with Hispanics.

But knowledgeable Republican sources tell me that Rubio is not being vetted by Mitt Romney’s vice presidential search team. He has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.

Although it is possible that Rubio may yet be asked to go through the vetting process, it has been nearly two months since Romney named his long-time aide Beth Myers to run his vice presidential search. The fact that Rubio has not been asked to turn over any documents by now is a strong indication that he is not on Romney’s short list of potential running mates.

Now this could actually be what it says, he’s not being considered or it could be just misdirection and interference that campaigns run all the time. But one would think, as the post says, if we’re two months into it and he asked to do anything? There’s a very good chance he isn’t in the discussion at all for one reason or another.

Mitt is no betting man like John McCain. His safest choice is still Rob Portman, and he will pick him soon enough.
In the meantime, Mitt will continue to tease the others, along the path laid out by Queen Elizabeth for broadening support 500 years ago. The shrewd Queen used the interests of her many suitors then to transform a fledgling country into the powerhouse of Europe.
Yes, the VP sweepstakes demand shrewdness — but also give us a chance to see if the candidate can navigate the country. The process has presented a wealth of opportunities for Mitt thus far and he has made the most of them.
    Not bad.

Ah, kafantaris, you are much better with words than I. So here is my lesser comment: Good! Don’t think Rubio is in any way ready for such an amazing situation! What are his qualification?? I hope nobody in this country is thinking of selecting VP because of ethnicity, gender, skin color, etc! We’ve already been down that road! Rubio hasn’t accomplished anything on his own merit YET, don’t doubt he will someday, but he’s not the one, yet!
