Regarding Obamacare

I can’t say that I am shocked by the result. Before the oral hearing most legal experts seemed to think that Obamacare was safe. After the hearing more people seemed to think that it was 50/50 on whether it was going to be upheld or not. The biggest surprise is perhaps that Kennedy decided to go with the conservatives while Roberts went with the liberals. All in all, little has changed. Republicans still need to win a sizeable majority in Congress and do their best to defeat President Obama.
Two more things.
1. Just because an arbitrary body considers something to be constitutional that does not necessarily make it good policy.
2. Via The Institute for Humane Studies:
“If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion.”
