How many times have we heard that money is corrupting politics? A billion times? The biggest accusers / whiners are Leftists. Hands down. “The Koch Brothers are buying the election!” “Big Business Is Buying Candidates!” “Citizen’s United opened up the flood gates to special interests!!!”

Blah, Blah, Blah.

What the left is really saying is “Our monopoly on special interest money is being threatened! How dare conservatives tap into their rich donors like we do all the time!… NO FAIR!!”

What you’ll notice is that “special interests” never include, oh, labor unions who’ve traditionally poured the vast majority of their political contributions into Democrat campaigns. Then they don’t complain when Democrats steer tax dollars to those same groups. No! That’s not “money in politics!” That’s just good governing. Right?

How about Obama’s “evolving” position on gay marriage? I’m getting a kick out of adults pretending that Obama isn’t being a political opportunist on this. Like he really hasn’t just straddled the fence for so many years for political reasons. It’s hilarious. You want to know why Obama is suddenly going to finally come out (no pun intended) in support of same sex marriage? Money.

Some leading gay and progressive donors are so angry over President Obama’s refusal to sign an executive order barring same sex discrimination by federal contractors that they are refusing to give any more money to the pro-Obama super PAC, a top gay fundraiser’s office tells me. In some cases, I’m told, big donations are being withheld.

Oh, and not just your run of the mill direct contributions to a campaign, mind you. We’re talking about the big donations to SuperPACs. The evil SuperPACs that Citizen’s United unleashed on the country.

The hypocrisy on all this is staggering. But the actual point here is that money in politics isn’t evil in itself. Can it be used to influence politicians? Sure. That’s how it works. The issue is how the Left demagogues the entire concept of money in politics when it’s conservative causes being funded, but doesn’t even see that they’re doing the exact same thing.

That’s the difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives don’t hide their agenda. Liberals hide their agenda and then lie about what conservatives are up to.
