Media Matters’ Attacks On Limbaugh Working

… at least that’s what David Brock’s smear merchants want you to believe.
Their resident extortionist, Angelo Carusone, the guy who annoys businesses for Media Matters – and gets paid for it – tweeted out that their efforts are working.
Cumulus Media reported millions in lost revenue; they attributed it to Limbaugh. See! Your participation does matter. Onward

OMG! They’re putting Limbaugh out of business! But where are they getting this information? Usually, when a Media Matters stooge tweets out huge news they will at least provide a link back to their own website so people can read more. Not this time, though. Strange.
No worries! They followed it up with more information!
Note: Cumulus thinks the worst is behind them and that things will return to normal in June. This is all the more reason to stay active.

See? They’ve got you covered. They’re giving you the important stuff. Don’t worry about going out there on the biased internet and researching it yourself, Media Matters lemmings. They”ll do all the heavy lifting.
Because on the off chance that you did go and google for news on Cumulus Media’s conference calls with investors, you might find this.
On the company’s conference call MONDAY, CUMULUS MEDIA CEO LEW DICKEY said that the boycott of PREMIERE NETWORKS’ RUSH LIMBAUGH cost his company a “couple million dollars” in first quarter, about 1% of the company’s total revenue, and expects a similar number for second quarter, although he noted that JUNE is “back to normal.”
Wait, what? The huge loss was 1% of the company’s total revenue? ONE PERCENT?
Okay, maybe I’m just a dumb conservative who simply doesn’t understand what success is. Where I’m from, 1% is usually called a “rounding error.” If I were to spend months harassing dozens and dozens of businesses to impact a broadcasting company’s bottom line by 1%, I’d consider all that time wasted. But that’s just me. I have standards. I don’t believe in participation trophies.
Oh, it gets better. You see, Cumulus isn’t the main radio station owner who carries Rush’s show. They only own 38 of the over 600 who carry it. That’s roughly 6% of the total number of stations. And, Cumulus is the company that is trying to market Mike Huckabee’s show as a potential replacement for Rush’s show on their stations.
The show airs on 38 CUMULUS stations. CUMULUS is marketing the new MIKE HUCKABEE show as competition for LIMBAUGH, and DICKEY used the occasion to assert that the LIMBAUGH controversy “put some winds at the sails” of HUCKABEE’s affiliation push.
In other words, Cumulus is pushing another show. Cumulus is trying to differentiate itself from companies like Clear Channel, etc. It has little to do with Media Matters’ silly boycott and everyone knows it.
And that, friends, is why Media Matters neglected to provide a link to their huge news. Context would have ruined the pep talk.
Next year, when Limbaugh is still on the air, Media Matters will still be acting like they’re winning something. It will be like that until Limbaugh retires. And then, when he does, Media Matters will throw a party claiming victory. Because they’re idiots.

That’s 1% of the first Quarter…or .25% of yearly.
I’m calling bull on all of this. If their revenue is down, it’s because Huckabee is getting smacked in his time slot and advertisers aren’t willing to pay the bucks for him that they were willing to pay for Rush.
minor correction. It didn’t impact their bottom line. It impacted their top line. The bottom line impact would be a fraction because it would only be the “profit” on the “couple of million” in top line (revenue) loss.
so media matters sounds even sillier than you thought.
Well, their revenue dropped over 3% (around $10 million.)
And you are 100% wrong about it being a “faction” of their bottom line. If you shave 1% of the top without adjusting your costs, it is amplified on the bottom line. And since they still had to pay Rush, it was a complete set loss.
If I gross $100 million and net $10 million, if I lose $1, I will now stand at $99 million gross and $9 million net – a much more significant % adjustment on the bottom than the top.
If a single show that is only a minor part of my business caused that much damage to the bottom line, I would want heads.
And Huckabee was not even on the air in Q1.
