Let’s try a little experiment. Media Matters tweeted this out in some bizarre attempt to make themselves seem like they’re morally superior to “the right wing”:

When you stop laughing, go over to Media Matters and look up “Bill Maher.” What you’ll find are three pages of stories. None of them call out Bill Maher’s comments regarding Sarah Palin or any of his well documented misogynistic attacks on women.

But the grand pooh-bah of media misogyny is without a doubt Bill Maher—who also happens to be a favorite of liberals—who has given $1 million to President Obama’s super PAC. Maher has called Palin a “dumb twat” and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann “boobs” and “two bimbos.” He said of the former vice-presidential candidate, “She is not a mean girl. She is a crazy girl with mean ideas.” He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator. Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama’s name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job. Maher said of a woman who was harassed while breast-feeding at an Applebee’s, “Don’t show me your tits!” as though a woman feeding her child is trying to flash Maher. (Here’s a way to solve his problem: don’t stare at a strangers’ breasts). Then, his coup de grâce: “And by the way, there is a place where breasts and food do go together. It’s called Hooters!”

It seem Media Matters is holding others accountable to standards they don’t even meet themselves. Funny, no?

like that time Chris Matthews said a bunch of sexist stuff and Media Matters didn’t say anything: http://mediamatters.org/press/releases/200801110010

or when Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut” and Media Matters didn’t say anything: http://mediamatters.org/blog/201105250043

    Hi, Cantbelieveit,

    Read their tweet.

The absense of any criticism of Bill Maher disproves their tweet. They’re trying to hold “RW media” to a standard they don’t meet themselves.

    This isn’t rocket science.

What you’ve done is prove that they selectively decide when to critique a left-winger. In Schultz’ case, they said NOTHING until Schultz apologized. In Chris Matthews’ case, they’ve had beef with him for years.

    You lose.

  3. cantbelieveit says:

How does absence of criticism of Maher disprove their statement? Who in the conservative media is calling out Rush for his misogyny?

  4. RB says:

    George Will.

    Game. Set. Match.

    Goodbye.

  5. RB says:

Memo to any leftwinger who tries to tangle with me, like cantbelieveit above: I’m five steps ahead of you.

  6. cantbelieveit says:

George Will did, indeed, and to his credit. Media Matters’ tweet, if anything, echo what he said — conservative leaders aren’t doing enough to stand up to misogyny.

  7. cantbelieveit says:

Will said: “It is the responsibility of conservatives to police the right and its excesses, just as the liberals unfailingly fail to police the excesses on their own side.”

Implication: Conservatives aren’t doing it already.

I find it fascinating that leftists agree with Media Matters on this, without noting their blatant hypocrisy. MMFA asks why do RW not speak up about this? Which is garbage by the way. George Will and various people on the Fox News Channel have stated they find this language unnecessary. The question to be asked is why the hell does MMFA only care about RW comments? Also, MMFA is advocating the boycott of advertisers of Rush’s show. Did they ever do the same for Matthews? Schultz? Or how about the sponsors of Maher’s “comedy” tour? Or advise people not to subscribe to HBO? This nonsense goes on and on with this absurd organization. They have zero credibility on the issue of standing up for women, unless the women are “enlightened” enough to be leftists.

  9. RB says:

I’m going to let you figure out that Will was also saying the left NEVER does: “unfailingly fail”

    lol good one

  11. Paul says:

The difference, you morons, is all your examples live their life, and make their living in the public eye. If you live your life that way, you can expect criticism, its as simple as that. Were the comments from Ed Shulz, and Bill Maher crass and uncalled for, yes. Absolutely. Were they directed at a private citizen that did nothing more than testify in front of congress, No. That’s the difference, and that is why the level of disgust is at this level. He attacked a private citizen, no one else you mentioned has done that. Own it…

  12. EER says:

    Paul,

    “..testify in front of Congress..”

Boom. She begged to do so specifically to get the attention for her cause. She placed herself in the public eye. And it doesn’t matter if a woman is in the public eye. Well, unless she’s a conservative then she’s fair game. Not one single leftist has come out to admonish Maher or Schultz. Not one. That is the point.

To quote RB; Game. Set. Match.

  13. [...] I noted before, the left doesn’t really care about misogyny. They are trying to destroy Rush Limbaugh – it’s their life mission, [...]

  14. RB says:

    Hi Paul,

    Cry harder.

  15. [...] does NOT support Good Christian women, apparently.    In other entertainment news, Bill Maher, hardly a feminist himself, has Rushed to the aid of another talking head who slandered a female Georgetown Law School [...]
