I’ve seen some rumblings on Twitter about reports that Fidel Castro has died. While the 86 year-old has been in poor health recently, I have not been able to find any credible source to corroborate his death. What I was able to find was a report that, much like before, his death may merely be another hoax designed to spread a computer virus:

A computer virus is really what is behind the news of the alleged death of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

It is not the first time that the supposed death of Fidel Castro hook is used as computer viruses. Last January, the ghost of Fidel went out again to walk in the inbox of several users. This time his comrade Hugo Chavez comes in a morbid image, Chavez appears next to the coffin crying Castro, to open the mail is downloaded to a dangerous Trojan.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if he’s really dead or if, as I suspect, it’s yet another hoax. In the meantime, it’s probably a good idea to be extra careful with your Emails.
