No, The Parents of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Aren’t Criminals

OK, I know we all have issues with the crazy things DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz says. She’s tried to blame the Tea Party for Gabby Giffords, she’s falsely claimed unemployment didn’t go up under President Obama, and she even went so far as to claim Republicans wanted to bring back Jim Crow Laws. However, this time some ridiculous claims are being made about her and her parents and I think its only fair to point out that they are grossly inaccurate.
I saw this tweet which directed me to Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs where I found this:
DNC CHAIR DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ PARENTS OFF TO JAIL FOR CORRUPTION
The rotten apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Moochers, looters and destroyers.
DNC Chair’s parents off to jail for corruption - Political Arena
Of all of the most vile, bold face, shameless liars in politics, no one tops acting DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. We have videos of her and youtube is rife with them; bloggers have sliced and diced her lies with verifiable sources from one end of the country to the other.
Like Mother like daughter?
Richard Rubin Sentenced to Ten Months in Federal Prison
Richard Rubin and Diana Wasserman-Rubin
The post goes on to cite the Broward paper and describe the charges Richard Rubin faced and also gets into the charges faced by Diana Wasserman-Rubin. The DNC Chair’s parents being sent to jail on corruption charges? Seems pretty awful, right? There’s just one problem. Those aren’t her parents. What’s even worse is the articles used never said they were. From The Sun Sentinel:
News flash: Wikipedia isn’t always correct.
The online encyclopedia’s penchant for posting inaccuracies isn’t helping U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, whose parents are listed on Wikipedia as being two fallen public figures in Broward.
“She is the daughter of former Broward Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin, and her stepfather is Richard Rubin,” the entry about the congresswoman reads.
Wasserman-Rubin resigned from the Broward County Commission in 2010 and is facing trial on public corruption related charges, and Rubin, a former grants writer for Southwest Ranches, is serving a 10- month federal prison sentence for tax evasion. Wasserman Schultz has a national profile as head of the Democratic National Committee, so conservative bloggers took the faux familial tie and ran with it.
They even posted a picture of Wasserman Shultz’s REAL mother and father at her 2009 swearing-in ceremony:
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s REAL mom is in this photo-
graph of her swearing-in from January 2009. The congresswoman
and her mom, Ann Wasserman, are in blue. To the far left is
non-family-member Nancy Pelosi, then-House-Speaker. Holding the Bible
is the congresswoman’s husband, Steve Schultz. Behind her, Larry
Wasserman, her dad. And to her side, her brother, Steve. Two of her
three kids are in front. (photo courtesy of Rep. Wasserman Schultz)
You can tell from the two pictures and the paper’s caption they aren’t the same people. But just for good measure, there’s also this:
The Cuban-born Wasserman-Rubin said she carries the “Wasserman’’ surname from her first husband, father of her two children (neither of whom is in Congress).
“We are not related at all,’’ she said. “… Not related with any connection whatsoever.’’
Wasserman Schultz, meanwhile, is a non-Hispanic Jewish woman whose parents are alive, well and not facing any public corruption charges. She said her father is a CPA, her mom works at Macy’s, and the two have never been involved in politics, ever.
She said she’s seen an occasional Tweet making the erroneous tie, but the misinformed are a small minority.
The congresswoman is 45. The ex-commissioner is soon turning 65. So by that measure, at least, it’s plausible. But that’s where it ends, she said.
“She could technically be my mother,’’ Wasserman Schultz said, ”but I would have to be Cuban-American. And Catholic.’’
I’m all for going after the DNC Chair for the all the nonsensical things that come out of her mouth, but this simply isn’t true. I hope Ms. Geller and the blog she linked, Political Arena, take down these posts or correct and admit they got it wrong and go yell at Wikipedia if they want. There’s no need to invent or push crazy here, Debbie Wasserman Schultz brings more than enough to go around.
UPDATE: Both Atlas Shrugs and Political Arena have now made corrections.

The Right Sphere article carries its own wrong information. Debbie didn’t take oath on the Bible but for personal political reasons she took the oath on the Tanakh. Get is straight.
The “Tanakh” is often referred to as the “Hebrew Bible” or the “Jewish Bible” so the term “Bible” is 100% legitimate in the paper’s caption.
Tommy and the gang at The Right Sphere. We posted a correction, along with pointing out that we had multiple sources, which we linked to, that said that Diana Wasserman is Deb’s mother. We posted the correction at about 5:30PM Wednesday – which is about 9 hours before you posted this. No offense intended, but you had to click the politicalarena link to see it. We know you meant well. No worries.
Tommy: Half a foot-long is only 6 inches and not a foot. Half a Bible is not the Bible. Do you read half of Moby Dick and say you’re finished? Gotta wonder about people sometimes since Debbie herself very vocally let it be known like a ‘stickler’ that it wasn’t the Bible but the ‘Tanakh.’ or ‘half’ that she took the oath on, and not the whole ‘Bible’. And I’m not even religious, just wanting logic.

Bi·ble (bbl)
n.
1.
a. The sacred book of Christianity, a collection of ancient writings including the books of both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
b. The Hebrew Scriptures, the sacred book of Judaism.
c. A particular copy of a Bible: the old family Bible.
d. A book or collection of writings constituting the sacred text of a religion.
2. often bible A book considered authoritative in its field: the bible of French cooking.
I’ve heard said: half the gospel is not the gospel. Half the truth is not the truth. I wish the Right Sphere would adjust their quote of DWS taking the oath on the Bible. Afterall, logically, isn’t it offensive to both communities? One denies the truth of the N.T. and one denies the Bible is complete without the N.T.! You have to ignore a whole lot in order to say half is the Bible… if you take religion to the logical conclusion. This is a dead thread. No use anymore.
The truth has never gotten in the way of U LIBS before why should it now.
is it REALLY necessary to post a picture of the late Don Knotts in drag whenever there’s a story about Debbie Derp? okay, okay, i GET it…but, seriously…WTH?
