The Left’s New Buzz Word: Eliminationist
Many of you have probably noticed the increased use of the word “eliminationist” lately. Given the new attention the Left is giving to the term “blood libel”, I thought I’d highlight yet another instance where they prove their rank hypocrisy.
Yesterday, the Left was outraged and insulted that Sarah Palin would dare accuse her detractors of manufacturing a blood libel against her. “Does she even know what that means??”, they scoffed. “How dare she!?”, many gasped. You see, the term’s etymology traces back to accusations levied against Jewish people. The lie (or libel) was that Jews killed children and used their blood for unholy rituals. The intent was to demonize an entire group of people. Sound familiar? Of course it does. That is exactly what the Left has been doing since Saturday morning. The Left has been accusing the Right of motivating a person to murder six people and injure 19 others. It is a lie intended to demonize an entire group of people: the Right. If that’s not blood libel, the term has no meaning anymore.
Now the hypocrisy.
Let’s look at the term “eliminationist” (or Eliminationism), shall we?
The term was coined by American political scientist Daniel Goldhagen in his 1996 book Hitler’s Willing Executioners in which he posits that ordinary Germans not only knew about, but also supported, the Holocaust because of a unique and virulent “eliminationist antisemitism” in the German identity, which had developed in the preceding centuries.
Interesting. The smear merchants who were so outraged at Palin have basically found a new way to call Conservatives nazis and racists. How clever!
Remember, these are the same people calling for civility in our political discourse. I guess “civility” is finding new ways to accuse your political opponents of wanting to exterminate you? It is getting harder and harder to decipher the new language these people are using. “We’re not Socialists! We’re Progressives!” As if there’s a difference? That’s why I prefer the term Leftist. There’s no wiggle room.
There’s an old saying:
If you want to anger a Conservative, lie to him. If you want to anger a Liberal, tell him the truth.
The past few days have proved this axiom is right on the money.
