Rand Paul campaigning in Kentucky.

Via Cubachi, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul takes my position on Rep. Bachmann’s separate response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:

“I’ll be asked to comment, too,” Paul said. “A lot of different senators and congressmen make comments. Only one official one the Republicans give and I think that is fine because you can’t have ten different responses”…

“I think you get a variety of opinions and all Republicans aren’t the same, but I don’t see it as trying to usurp somebody else’s prerogative. I think one main Republican message, but other voices as well.”

We need to realize that Rep. Paul Ryan’s response is the official one, and will likely be aired on most news channels and networks covering the President’s address. Michelle Bachmann’s rebuttal on the other hand, will only be aired on CNN – likely in a ploy for viewers.

I don’t know about the specifics of Bachmann’s response but if it’s anything like most responses that pundits and elected officials give to the talking heads I don’t see what the big deal is. However, if she’s sitting at a desk with a flag behind her trying to make her response seem like an official one, I do worry she may be distracting attention from Paul Ryan.

Overall, we’re all making a bigger deal out of this than needed.
